A nativity reenactment was participated in by all present.

all souls’ day ECUMENICAL SERVICE

November 2022

On cool damp evening of All Souls’ Day, parishioners and community members of the local Christian churches gathered at Broadford Cemetery to remember those who have died and to bless the graves.

Fr Prakash Cutinha from the local Roman Catholic Parish started the ‘Blessings of the Graves’ on All Souls’ Day in 2021 with plans to make it an annual event but to also include other churches in the area.

This year, all Christian churches in the local area were invited to participate, with our own Fr André DuPlooy, and also Reverend Len Sherratt from the Broadford Uniting Church, Major Gail Roberts from the Salvation Army, and Fr Prakash all participating.

Names of those who had died and been interred in the cemetery in the previous year were read out by Major Gail Roberts, with members of their families were invited to light a candle from the Paschal Candle.

The evening was led by the Broadford Cemetery Trust Chairman, Mr Paul Fleming, with the Opening Prayers being said by Fr Prakash; the Gospel of the day being read by Fr André; the prayers were read by Major Gail Roberts; and the final blessing by Rev Len Sherratt. The leaders of the four churches, each went to the north, south, east and west areas of the cemetery and sprinkled the graves with holy water. Parishioners from each of the churches followed their church leader and joined in the prayers as the graves were blessed.

Community Garden Open Day

October 2022

On October 29th, the Kilmore Community Garden Day held their Open Day. The Community Garden is a project taken on by members of the Kilmore Community, and the parish have been pleased to ‘lend’ them the land for their project.

In the last twelve months since it was official opened, the Community Garden has taken shape with garden beds, produce and flowers all thriving.

Fr André welcomed all present and a great day was had by all.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II

September 2022

On September 9th our Sovereign Queen Elizabeth died.

During the days between her death and her funeral, our Church buildings were kept open to allow members of the community to pay their respects and take a moment of silence to remember such a wonderful monarch who gave her life to her country and the commonwealth. It was humbling to see the bouquets of flowers which were left at the church door and at the altar in her memory.

May she Rest In Peace and rise in glory. Amen

“Life’s Golden Thread” - Memoirs by Dr Norman Rose

July 2022

In July this year, Parish Councillor Norman Rose had his memoirs published. Norman tells of his upbringing in the Jewish faith before converting to Christianity later in life.

If you want more information about Norman’s book, please get in touch with us (publicity@anglicankilmore.org.au) and we can put you in contact with Norman.

“grow in grace” at Saint Stepen’s, Tallarook

June 2022

What a wonderful afternoon at St Stephen's, Tallaroook, when Bishop Clarence came for the second "Walking in the way of Christ" service in the Diocese. Bishop Clarence told those present of his aim to visit five of the smaller churches within the Diocese as part of the Ministry Action Plan (MAP).

Thank you Bishop Clarence, and also Michelle and Kyle for your time with us.

Feast of pentecost

June 2022

The Feast of Pentecost across the parish has parishioners coming out in all their red. Our churches were decorated with balloons, ‘doves’ and streamers as we celebrated this great feast.

rose remembrance garden

May 2022

Our Rose Remembrance Garden at Christ Church is a place where a rose bush can be planted in memory of a loved one. For a cost of $35 to cover costs (fertiliser, mulch, water etc) and providing their own rose, parishioners and community members can have their own space to remember someone special in their lives.

holy week and easter

April 2022

From Palm Sunday to Easter Day we had some wonderful services, prayers and reflections, with our Palm Sunday procession; our Seder Passover Meal; Washing of the Feet and Last Supper; Good Friday Liturgy; Easter Eve new fire and Service of the Lights; and the wonderful celebration of Our Lord’s Resurrection on Easter Day.

Good friday royal children’s hospital appeal

April 2022

Thirty pieces of silver was the price for which Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus, in the account in the Gospel of Matthew. In this we read, that before the Last Supper, Judas is said to have gone to the Chief Priests and agreed to hand over Jesus in exchange for 30 silver coins.

Each year in the Parish of Kilmore, silver coins are collected in a large jar, and on Good Friday this is handed over to the local Country Fire Authority for the Good Friday Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal. It seems an appropriate day to do this following the celebration of the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday.

How blessed are we to have volunteers in our communities, who not only help us in our churches, but in the wider community reaching out to others.

diocesan chrism mass

April 2022

What a joy to witness our Diocesan Clergy, Bishops, Priests and Deacons, come together to renew their Ordination Vows at the Chrism Mass on Tuesday in Holy Week. As a Lay person, it was inspiring and uplifting to witness and to hear so many voices in unison as they all renewed their vows and affirmed their support to our Bishop.

The Chrism Mass is the time for the blessing of the Holy Oils - the oil of the sick, the oil of the catechumens and the holy chrism oil. These were processed through the Cathedral to the altar where Bishop Clarence blessed them for use in each parish for the year ahead.

How lovely, after two years of lockdowns and restrictions, to be able to sing in our Cathedral once again, so wonderfully accompanied by our Diocesan organist Kieran Crichton. We are blessed to have so many amazing voices to accompany the Mass.

To our Bishop Clarence, our Priests and Deacons - God bless you all and thank you for committing and renewing your vows for us all to experience with you in our parishes.

world day of prayer

March 2022

This year, Christ Church Kilmore hosted the day for Kilmore and beyond. The theme for the year was “For know the plans I have for you”, and the countries for 2022 were England, Northern Ireland and Wales (Scotland and the Republic of Ireland have their own World Day of Prayer). Other local churches were invited and it was so pleasing to see members from other denominations come along and take part in the service - St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, the Pentecostal Church, St George’s Wallan, St John’s Wandong, and Wallan Gateway church. Some of these churches are from our own parish towns, but a couple are from the Melbourne Diocese. Our parish, being at the southern most part of this Diocese, neighbours Melbourne Diocese, and it was lovely to also welcome Rev Dr Prahant Bhonsle who resides in the Anglican Parish of Hume incorporating Wallan and Wandong.

As Warden in the parish and of Welsh heritage, Caroline Burge had the privilege of being “guest speaker” and welcomed all with the words "Bore Da. Frodyr a chwioridd ..rhwyf yn eich Croesaw i chw I gynilleidfa I eglwys Christ a gobeithid budd duw yn ein bendithio ni a chariad a chyinfrodraith" - roughly translated from “Good morning everyone. Welcome to Christ Church. Thank you so much for coming - it is lovely to have you here with us. May God bless our time together in fellowship and love” for those of you who don’t speak Welsh!

shrove tuesday

March 2022

The day before Ash Wednesday when we come together to burn the palm crosses from last years Palm Sunday in readiness for the ashing on Ash Wednesday. We also remove the flowers from the church for the beginning of Lent; and follow this up with a wonderful pancake supper for Shrove Tuesday.

australia day bbq

January 2022

After nearly two years of lockdowns and restrictions, it was wonderful to finally get together to celebrate and give thanks for this wonderful country of ours with a BBQ for Australia Day. The day included acknowledging the traditional owners of the land in which our parish is on, as well as thanking God for the blessings of this great land.
