Pop-Up Op Shop at Broadford

March 2026

On Tuesday 17th March our Parish Op Shop held a Pop-Up Op Shop at Gavan Hall.

The fundraiser has been organised by volunteers from the Anglican Parish of Kilmore Op Shop in conjunction with St Matthew's, Broadford following the idea by Rev Cathy to raise funds to go towards the bushfire recovery from the recent fires at Longwood and Trawool.

With huge thanks to all who helped set up for the day; the customers spending money for a good cause; and to the smiling faces of Heather, Kathy, Anne and Terry our Op Shop volunteers for the day.

Mothering Sunday

March 2026

On the fourth Sunday in Lent, we celebrated Mothering Sunday in our parish.

Loving God, on this Mothering Sunday we thank you for mothers, step-mothers and mother figures, and for all the joy of family life. Be with those who are grieving because they have no mother; be close to those who are struggling because they have no children; be near to those who are sad because they are far apart from those they love. Let your love be present in every home, and help your church to have eyes to see and ears to hear the needs of all who come. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

World day of prayer

March 2026

A wonderful ecumenical service for World Day of Prayer was held at Christ Church on Friday 6th March, with worshippers from various other local churches - St Patrick's Catholic Church, Wallan Gateway Church, and Hume Anglican Parish; as well as some lovely residents from Kilmore Grove Care Community who were brought along by mini bus by their helpers.

With over 30 in attendance and 9 leading the prayers and readings, it was a time of reflection and prayer for the people of Nigeria.

Rev Cathy was the Speaker for the day, and told of the true life story of a young Nigerian boy who was born in 1745, and at aged 8 was taken from his home and family by the British colonisers to become a slave in the new Americas. A truly moving account of this young person's life and through his pain and suffering came to believe in Jesus.

Thank you to all who attended today, and we look forward to the World Day of Prayer Centenary Service to be held at St Patrick's, Kilmore in 2027.

New handrail for lectern at Christ Church

February 2026

On Sunday 22nd February at Christ Church, the new rail for the main lectern was blessed and used for the first time.

Parishioners Rod Noonan and Noel Baker talked of the best way to make something that was useful, OH&S friendly, but also looked good and in place in our wonderful old building.

Using his expertise, Rod did an amazing job designing the safety rail to be practical and safe.

Rev Cathy blessed it at the start of Mass, and within the first ten minutes it was used for the first reading of the day.

Thank you Rod for your amazing gift to the church.

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

February 2026

A lovely evening at Christ Church as parishioners gathered for our Shrove Tuesday Liturgy including removing the flowers from the church, turning the church to purple, eating pancakes, and ending the evening with burning last years Palm crosses in readiness for Ash Wednesday.

"Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return”. Three services in the parish were held on Ash Wednesday and wonderfully well attended. A lovely meaningful way to begin our Lenten journey.

Parish Dinner at the Rectory

February 2026

The first of our monthly bring and share Parish dinners was held at The Rectory in February. Parishioners joined together for a time of fellowship and getting to know our new Priest.

The ‘entertainment’ for this month was a light quiz on “How well do we know the Anglican Church”. We didn’t do amazingly well, but we did learn a lot.

Thanks to all who came along. These will be held monthly on the first Friday of the month.

Australia Day

January 2026

As we gathered together on Australia Day, we acknowledged the Taungurung people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which our parish lies, and paid respects to Elders of the Kulin nation past, present and emerging.

A great (but hot) day of fellowship and friendship giving thanks for this wonderful country we live in.

$80 was generously donated by those present with money raised going to 'Common Grace'. Common Grace is an Australian movement of Christians from diverse traditions, founded in 2014, united in pursuing "Jesus and justice" to foster the flourishing of all people and creation. Led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christian leaders, it focuses on four key areas: Indigenous justice, climate justice, ending domestic violence, and supporting asylum seekers.

Baptism of Jennifer Upfield

January 2026

What a joy to welcome through the waters of Holy Baptism Jennifer Maree Upfield into the church. A great day as her baptism was held on the same day we celebrated the Baptism of Our Lord.

We pray for Jennifer, and for her parents Todd and Emily, and Godparents Josh and Amy.

 Epiphany

January 2026

The Feast of the Epiphany in the Parish included the ceremony of 'Chalking the Doors'. At the end of each service, parishioners in each centre followed Rev Cathy to the door of each church being marked with the following: 20 + C + M + B + 26 (the three Wise Men - Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar). Parishioners were each given chalk and the prayers to make the markings on their own homes.
