Response to the violent and deliberate attack on the Jewish people gathered on Bondi Beach the evening of December 14th 2025
Our love is extended out to all victims, families and those impacted by the tragic and traumatic attack on the Jewish community who had gathered together to celebrate the hope and light of Hanukkah at Bondi Beach in NSW last night (Sunday 14th December).
We pray, God, creator of the world, comfort all who are in shock, grief, fear and confusion at this time which should be filled with peace, love, hope and joy – no matter what our faith, religion, ethnic background or culture. Bring your healing into the hurt;
Send your comfort into the loss; Shine your light into the darkness. Amen.
As Rabbi Jonathon Sacks states… “For though my faith is not yours and your faith is not mine, if we are each free to light our own flame, together we can banish some of the darkness of the world.” Let us stand in solidarity, one with each other, and bring such light into the world.
There are many churches across Australia opening their doors over the next few days for members of the community to come and light a candle in prayer, solidarity and love for our Jewish brothers and sisters and to give thanks for all who responded and assisted, at times risking their own lives to do so. The doors of Christ Church, Kilmore will be open from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday 17th December and candles will be available for anyone in Kilmore and surrounds who would like to come and light a candle, write a few words and/or simply spend some time in quiet reflection. I know many are using social media at this time to share thoughts, prayers and condolences – but sometimes it is helpful to be able to physically go somewhere to do so.
Please look after yourself and your own wellbeing and seek help if you need it. I am available if you need to talk on the phone and will be around on Wednesday in the church. Rev Cathy
